You don't need a product line, a business plan, or a design degree. You need a free Canva account, a weekend, and the five ideas below.

Each of these is a proven category of digital products to sell online — people are actively searching for them, buying them, and coming back for more. I've built products in all five. Here's exactly what they are, who buys them, how to make them, and what to charge.

1. Social Media Templates

What it is

A pack of pre-designed, editable Canva templates for a specific social media platform — usually Instagram posts, Stories, Pinterest pins, or LinkedIn carousels. Customers download the template, click "Use Template" in Canva, and swap in their own text, colors, and photos.

Who buys it

Small business owners, coaches, virtual assistants, and content creators who need to post consistently but hate staring at a blank screen. They want to look professional without hiring a designer.

How to make it with Canva

  1. Choose a niche — "real estate agent Instagram templates" converts better than "Instagram templates." Specificity sells.
  2. Create 15–20 templates in Canva for your chosen platform size (e.g., 1080x1080 for Instagram posts).
  3. Keep fonts, colors, and style consistent across all slides — this is what makes a pack feel premium.
  4. Export the Canva share link (not the PDF) — buyers get a live, editable template they can copy into their own account.
💡 Pro Tip

Include a variety of template types in one pack: promotional posts, quote graphics, before/after reveals, tip posts, and engagement prompts. More variety = higher perceived value.

Pricing range

$17–$47 for a pack of 15–30 templates. Niche packs (e.g., "wedding planner Instagram kit") can go higher. Seasonal packs (holiday, back-to-school) do particularly well in the weeks leading up to the event.

2. Printable Planners and Journals

What it is

A beautifully designed PDF that customers download, print at home or at a print shop, and use as a planner, journal, habit tracker, or goal-setting workbook. The customer pays once; you deliver a file. No inventory, no shipping, no restocking.

Who buys it

Anyone trying to get more organized — students, working parents, entrepreneurs, productivity enthusiasts. Etsy is full of planner buyers, and they buy in bulk. A customer who buys your daily planner will come back for your meal planner, your budget tracker, your habit journal.

How to make it with Canva

  1. Start with Canva's A4 or US Letter document size.
  2. Search "planner template" in Canva's template library — there are hundreds of starting points.
  3. Design 10–20 pages: cover page, monthly overview, weekly spread, daily pages, notes pages, and any trackers relevant to your niche.
  4. Export as a high-resolution PDF (Canva's "PDF Print" option is best for print quality).

The key to a planner that sells is a specific niche: a pregnancy journal, a business launch planner, a 90-day fitness tracker. Generic planners compete with thousands of listings. A "first-year teacher classroom planner" has a passionate, specific audience and almost no competition.

Pricing range

$7–$27 for a standard planner pack. Niche or premium designs (gold foil aesthetics, illustrated covers) can go to $37–$47. Bundles (daily + weekly + monthly) justify $47+.

3. Resume and CV Templates

What it is

A polished, ATS-friendly (or visually striking, depending on the industry) resume template that job seekers can edit directly in Canva. One purchase, unlimited edits — the customer owns the template forever.

Who buys it

Job seekers, college graduates, career changers, and professionals refreshing their brand. Resume templates have consistent year-round demand — people are always job hunting. They also tend to buy 2–3 templates to try different styles, so repeat purchases are common.

How to make it with Canva

  1. Design in standard US Letter size (8.5x11 inches).
  2. Create a clean, well-structured layout: contact info at the top, clearly labeled sections (Experience, Education, Skills), and readable fonts at 10–12pt.
  3. Offer a matching cover letter template in the same design — this increases perceived value and lets you charge more.
  4. Share the Canva template link so buyers can duplicate and edit it without needing design software.
💡 Niche Down

Industry-specific resumes outperform generic ones. A "creative director resume template" or "nursing resume template" speaks directly to a buyer's exact situation. Design it with the right terminology and layout for that field.

Pricing range

$7–$17 for a single template. $27–$47 for a bundle (resume + cover letter + LinkedIn banner + reference page). The bundle approach is the move — same time investment, 3x revenue.

4. Ebook Covers and Interior Layouts

What it is

Two separate (or bundled) products: a professionally designed ebook cover template, and a multi-page interior layout template for the body of the ebook. Both are editable in Canva. Creators use these to make their self-published ebooks and lead magnets look like they were designed by a professional.

Who buys it

Coaches, course creators, bloggers, and online business owners who produce ebooks and lead magnets regularly. They know their content is good — they just can't afford a designer for every new freebie or product. Your template solves that problem in 20 minutes.

How to make it with Canva

  1. For the cover: Design at 1600x2560px (standard ebook cover ratio). Create 3–5 color variations in the same pack — same layout, different palettes. Buyers love options.
  2. For the interior: Use Canva's document format (8.5x11 or A4). Build 15–25 page types: chapter title pages, text-heavy pages, pull-quote pages, tip boxes, table of contents, and a bio page.
  3. Use placeholder text ("Your Title Here," "Your Chapter Name") so buyers immediately understand how to use it.
  4. Export and deliver both the cover Canva link and the interior Canva link.

Pricing range

$17–$37 for cover-only packs. $37–$67 for full ebook template kits (cover + interior). Premium aesthetics (minimalist, editorial, bold typographic) command higher prices.

5. Digital Wall Art and Printables

What it is

Downloadable art prints, motivational posters, affirmation cards, botanical illustrations, or abstract designs that customers print at home or at a print shop and frame. No physical product — just a high-resolution digital file, typically delivered as a JPG or PDF.

Who buys it

Home decorators, gift-givers, and people who want affordable art without the shipping costs and wait times of physical prints. It's one of the largest categories on Etsy. New homeowners, apartment renters, nursery decorators, office decorators — the market is enormous and search volume is massive.

How to make it with Canva

  1. Design at 3000x4000px or higher for print quality (Canva Pro handles this; free accounts max at 1080px — worth the upgrade for this product type).
  2. Pick a theme: minimalist line art, botanical, typography quotes, abstract geometric, celestial, etc. Niche aesthetics have dedicated fanbases.
  3. Create in common print sizes: 5x7, 8x10, and 11x14 — or make it ratio-consistent so customers can scale freely.
  4. Bundle 3–6 coordinating pieces as a "set" — same aesthetic, different designs. Sets sell better than singles because they make decorating a room feel easy.
💡 Seasonal Play

Seasonal wall art (Christmas, Halloween, spring botanicals, back-to-school) spikes in search volume 4–6 weeks before the season. Build your seasonal sets now and have them ready before demand peaks.

Pricing range

$3–$7 for single prints. $12–$25 for coordinating sets of 3–6. Volume matters here — the goal is a large catalog that generates long-tail search traffic. Your 50th listing pulls in buyers your 5th never reached.

Which One Should You Build First?

Pick the one that matches your existing skills and your audience.

  • If you're a content creator or business owner: social media templates — you already know what your audience needs.
  • If you're organized and productive: printable planners — your personal system is someone else's dream product.
  • If you've recently job hunted or hired: resume templates — you know what a strong resume looks like.
  • If you write or teach: ebook templates — you're building these for yourself anyway.
  • If you have an eye for design: wall art — the lowest barrier to entry and unlimited scale.

One caveat: don't let the decision slow you down. Any of these can generate real income. The first sale is the hardest. Once you've made it, you'll realize how straightforward the rest is.
